Infectious Diseases

Dr. Garas is a fellowship-trained infectious disease specialist.  A graduate of the University of Alexandria Medical School in Alexandria, Egypt, Dr. Garas completed his internal medicine residency at the St. Vincent Medical Center in Staten Island, New York (St. Vincent's is now named Richmond University Medical Center).  He served as Fellow in Infectious Diseases at St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers in Brooklyn and Queens.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.  An infectious disease specialist is one who has completed sub-specialty training in diagnosing and treating illnesses and acute & chronic infections caused by microorganisms.  Dr. Garas provides help for osteomyelitis, endocarditis, skin infection, post-operative infections, pneumonia, STDs and hepatitis, as well as travel medicine.  He has special interest and expertise in disease management programs for individuals living with HIV. 

Dr. Garas is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
