Dr. Joyce Guirand, D.O. was born in Brooklyn, and raised on Long Island. She grew up in Suffolk County, NY in a town similar to Middletown. She feels that families make a town thrive, and she has dedicated her life to keeping families healthy. After receiving a psychology degree from New York’s Hofstra University, Dr. Guirand earned her medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury. It was then that she realized that her skills were best suited for the care of the family unit. She continued her postgraduate studies at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, completing the Family and Community Medicine Residency Program at Jamaica Hospital. As a Resident there, she was appointed class representative for both the Family Medicine Performance Improvement Committee and the Educational Committee. In addition, she participated in a number of community health fairs and sports activities with local high schools. She prides herself in the tight bonds that were made with both patients and clinical staff while in Jamaica, Queens. She hopes to do the same here in Middletown Medical.

Her clinical interests include preventive medicine and end-of-life care. Dr. Guirand is a resident member of the National Medical Association and has studied and presented papers on a range of family medicine topics, including: Influenza in the elderly, childhood obesity, and hypertension in the elderly. As a medical student, she served on the National Committee of the Student National Medical Association as Community Service Co-Chair. She was able to affect many communities across the county by hosting a ten-city 5K walk for childhood obesity awareness. She enjoys mentoring young kids and adolescents on staying healthy and achieving their goals. Dr. Guirand enjoys the challenge of practicing medicine and the pleasure of getting to know her patients of all ages and populations.
